Expansion Bellows

Expansion bellows, also known as expansion joints, are flexible components used in piping systems to absorb thermal expansion and contraction of pipes, as well as to accommodate misalignment and vibration. They are typically made of corrugated metal, such as stainless steel, but can also be made from rubber or fabric.

Thermal expansion and contraction: Pipes expand and contract with temperature changes. Expansion bellows absorb these movements, preventing stress and damage to the piping system.

Misalignment: Bellows can compensate for minor misalignments between pipe sections, reducing stress on the system.

Vibration damping: They can absorb vibrations and reduce noise transmission in piping systems.

Equipment protection: Expansion bellows protect sensitive equipment, like pumps and turbines, from damage caused by pipe movement

Limited movement: Each bellows has a specific movement capacity.

Pressure limitations: Bellows have pressure ratings that must be considered.

Susceptibility to corrosion: Depending on the material, bellows can be susceptible to corrosion in certain environments.
